“Be still and know that I am God”. Psalm 46:10 It is a verse that has been repeated several times over the past week. I love it when you realize that the Holy Spirit is persistently telling you the same thing. I am glad that God is patient and doesn’t mind repeating himself. It reminds me of when I am trying to tell my children something and they are busy doing their own thing. I have to get them to stop and look at me before they really, truly hear what I have to say. I wonder how many times I am that child that my heavenly Father is trying to get to listen. I can have so much trouble sitting down or even slowing down to listen. I am busy multitaking a thousand different things. They are all good things, but I can leave out the most important thing of all. Being still and knowing…listening…being in His presence.
The first part is being still. That means not moving. I believe this is not just a physical stillness, but a mental stillness too. Be still, and KNOW. He is God. There is no doubt that HE is God. He is the I AM. There is no doubt of fact that He is the ONE. The greatness of being in God’s presence illicits a stillness. If we are fully aware of who He is, we will be still.
So I am that child. I need to “Be still”, to turn and put my eyes on Him, and listen. Knowing that I am in the presence of God, should make me ready to listen.
